WIN IT!!! World of Geekcraft
Susan Beal brought us into the month of May with her book Modern Log Cabin Quilting it seemed only appropriate she bring us out with her book World of Geekcraft: Step-by-Step Instructions for 25 Super-Cool Craft Projects. If your feeling kinda geeky or kinda crafty your in luck because I am giving away a copy of the book.
I gotta say as someone who has never played a round of Dungeons and Dragons or seen an episode of Star Trek some of these projects were a little lost on me. I have however gone on a Lost bender so I found the Lost Tin-Can Telephones & Swan Station Logbook amusing. I love any plant under glass so the Star Wars Terrariums are a fave. The Planet Commerative Plates and Needle-Felted Solar System Mobile are going to strike a cord with most any crafter. All that being said even if you don't think "geek crafts" apply to you, they do in one way or another.
Susan did not make all these fun projects herself, she has a slew of crafty supa stars helping her out. Look for names like Garth Johnson of Extreme Craft, Heather Mann of Dollar Store Crafts, A Trio of Tribbles by Linda Permann, Marvelous Machine Steam Punk Pendant by Diane Gilleland of Crafty Pod, Rachel Hobson of Craft Zine and many others.
With all these different crafters that means there are all kinds of different projects to make. Cross Stitch, mosaics, jewelry, quilting, cake baking, embroidery and wood working just to name a few are included in World of Geek Craft. As someone with crafty ADD I love craft books with a myriad of projects. There is something for everyone and even if you don't like Buffy the Vampire Slayer you might enjoy learning how to make a portrait using Perler beads.
So this concludes our month of May give aways. Stop by next Monday, I still have a stack of books around here maybe I'll keep things up Monday's in June. Who wouldn't want World of Geekcraft sitting on their bookshelf? Leave me a comment about geeks, crafts, you name it and you could win a copy.
I love this book!
ReplyDeleteThe ZAP! and POW! magnets reminded me, of the 1960's Batman TV show ( which I am obsessed with). I'm so obsessed that I found small round magnets, that had the phrase POW! on them. I was so exited when I found them, but I wanted to use the magnets in some sort of craft. So I decide to make a ring, all I did was glue one magnet in the middle of a big button and glue that on a plain ring back. The ring looks so cool, and I'm happy that I made. So I think having a book like this would be a perfect addition, to my craft shelf!
I am a crafty GEEK!!! I need that book!!!!!Please please please!!!!!
ReplyDelete"A Geek Comment" - All engineers are geeks and I married their King. He is a Vulcan. All he lacks is the pointy ears to be Mr. Spock. As a result, I have become geeky myself: I love robots! Jewelry that is one of a kind. Weird dioramas in the entry hall that frighten visitors. Yard Art that must be confined to the backyard, lest the Neighborhood Association march on us with torches and pitchforks. That's about it. Thanks! Amy Taylor
ReplyDeleteEek! You've never seen an episode of Star Trek? But you must! It's the law. Well, it should be anyway...:P
ReplyDeletehe he - my brother in law has attempted to make us play Dungeons and Dragons, and it's lost on me, too - but him & his girlfriend definitely would *die* if they got this in the mail from me! lol. :) Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteI have only recently embraced my inner geek this past summer, but boy have I embraced with full force!
ReplyDeleteI am an editor, and this, a geek :)

ReplyDeleteHi Jackie - I don't usually do a post or announce winners. The Monday after I run a contest I pick a winner randomly and email the person and ship em their goods. Yup someone won the Button Factory. Thanks for reminding me I need to pick some winners for the Lotta books.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute book! Suddenly geeky gifts won't have to be so expensive.

I heart all geekery.
ReplyDeleteGeeks Rule!!! For years I have been hidding my inner geek and in the past year I have fully embraced my geekery!! From the looks of it, this book is amazing and I would love to get a free copy. I am a struggling Artist, poet and most importantly a mommy of a super star six year old who loves to craft with me. Seems like thier would be tons of ideas in that book for us to do together. Also, I am a daily reader of you blog. Your ideas rock and your style is amazing. Keep up the good work...Girl,keep it coming!!
ReplyDeleteThis is right up my alley! When I'm not crafting, I'm usually geeking it out with my husband playing consoles or computer games. I even put my crafty & geeky sides to use for our wedding last month. All the decorations were handmade & Mario inspired.
ReplyDeleteI NEED to make a terrarium!!!!!!!!! Those are awesome. I think a crafty terrarium with a figure knitting could make knitting needles out of toothpicks and tiny balls of yarn. What a great book!! Now I need it to show me how o make one. Ha thanks Jennifer.
ReplyDeletemy father in law is an uber geek. we couldent do something on a friday night because that was his scifi night. He is very hard to shop for so being able to make shit for him would be slightly amaznig
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to deny my geekiness for years but it may be a lost cause. Out of curiosity, are there any Doctor Who related projects?
ReplyDeleteI need this book! :)
ReplyDeleteThe terrariums are the greatest! Imagine the possibilities! He-Man, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony... heh heh.
ReplyDeleteI am so geeky, I have dangle earrings made out of microchips. Gotta get that book.
ReplyDeleteDefinately need one! All those projects seem so quirky :D! I love the Mario crosstitch quote, intertextuality <3
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that such a book exists. My boyfriend is a Star Wars Fan (please do not say freak, that drives freaks insane!) and we are moving together. I am convincing him that I do need a spare room to set up my own studio for crafting and jewelry-making... and guess what? This book would make things easier for me for several reasons:
ReplyDelete1. I could handcraft his Xmas presents.
2. This way he would become interested in crafting with me - that´s spending time together having fun my way!
3. Whenever I need to help him and his freak (sorry, Fan) friends to build up an armature, I will know what to do to make them stand out. U know, freaks are very cute and caring people :)
4. I could convince him to build me up a library (sorry, I only do jewelry!) to make a place of honor for this book.
Having been his girlfriend for 8 years, I realize my life would have been easier with this book... Great to know I have found it! ;)
Congrats on your blog and on your book, they are great!!
