Currently the poor baby has one piece of art to look at which is the Brown Bat by Berkley Illustration. Austin is famous for their bats so it seemed appropriate, plus I’m kind of a sucker for anthropomorphic animals and the way his tie hangs upside down just kills me. Great White Shark was a close second since as a child I was a bit shark obsessed, where was Shark Week on TV 30 years ago I would have been in heaven!

Boy Girl Party has a variety of musically inclined animal prints that tickle my fancy. I could pick and choose from any of these prints pictured and am currently leaning towards Record Bears. Though that Melodicat gives me a hardcore hankering to watch the video for “And We Danced” by The Hooters. Not sure if that is a good or a bad thing.

The Presidential Facial Hair Hall of Fame by Elloh is a fer sure, big fat, hells yes. Not only is it educational but it falls under my most important home decorating rule, it makes me giggle. My God has it really been since Taft that we had a president with decent facial hair? That is way too long maybe Obama will surprise us with some mutton chops or a handle bar stache!

Even though the Animal Head Rock n Roll Band by Will Ruocco is the completely wrong colors for the nursery, way pricer than the other prints on my list and a bit more adult feeling – I can’t help but love it. You get all 4 prints for $80 which is a good deal as long as Hobby Lobby is having a ½ price frames sale.

A few months ago I had no idea what a soother was, now I am eyeballing art just because it matches a crib toy. Seriously the similarities between this piece (which I can’t buy now anyway because I can’t find it on Etsy) and the Fisher-Price Waterfall Soother are uncanny.

The Rockstar series by Sugar and Cream might be nice since baby daddy plays drums and mommy played sax in Junior High. Oh yes I did, I can’t remember how to do much more than wet a reed and my mom has long since converted the saxophone into a lamp, but in 6th grade I was like last chair with my little hand-me-down saxophone. However even though these prints are in fact going into a babies room they are a bit child like for my taste. Maybe I'll get the one with the kid that dumped Mac and Cheese on their head for my dining room!
So many choices, so little time. Well ok there is a whole trimester left to decide, but I’d like to have the executive decorating decisions made long before then. Maybe I’ll make some art for the walls and I already but in my Christmas request to Hope for a B is for Biggie painting!
People with animal heads!
ReplyDeleteWill Ruocco is making my heart flutter!
I do love me some Will Ruocco, but I like your animal head people better :)
ReplyDeleteI wish more parents took a creative approach to decorating for their children. I'm so over the pink or blue or yellow with ducks. This is way better and far more stimulating for kids.
ReplyDeleteI love anything with animals too :)
ReplyDeleteA couple of my favorite artists on etsy are TimsSally.etsy.com
& Browningtonforest.etsy.com
I love some of the prints up on Greg Stones' website. The nudity might not be appropriate for a nursery, but I love the penguin and robot prints.
ReplyDeleteI also like Eric Sturtevant's pigs. The one in the kitchen with the cakes is so cute.
But seriously - it's hard to beat presidential facial hair.
whatever you pick, your kids will hold it against you when they are teens. trust me. so just go with what you love, what makes you happy. happy mommy = happy child! and i love the animals playing music! love you!!
ReplyDeleteHey Nix I totally agree that everything for babies is so bland and pastel. I don't understand since they can't see those colors to start, oh well.
ReplyDeleteMichelle I loved the artists you suggested. My faves my Tims Sally are sadly mirrors, though I loved the pillows.
Noisy Penguin going to check your links now.
Kathy I know your right. I don't want to go too crazy with art for the walls since I want the kid to be able to pick his own things eventually. From grade school through High school my walls were covered with band pictures. Started with Culture Club and Duran Duran and then progressed to Ministry and Skinny Puppy.
Jennifer-
ReplyDeleteThis blog is rad!
Thanks for the write up, and I am now a
Will Ruocco fan!
Be careful not to scare your kid with that bat. I don't think I would have slept well next to it as a kid....
ReplyDeleteOH PLEASE!! Are you really going to put that diabodical bat in your baby's room. This from the adult child who is still spooked out by my doll heads and my Toni Doll on your bedside table. If you came home and found that picture in your old bedroom, you'd pack your stuff and go back to Austin. I'm just sayin'. I like all the others though, very witty.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am too indecisive for artwork that doesn't come from the dollar store but I love the "lost Etsy" piece.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter got a clothesline strong from one end of the wall to the other of pegged baby clothes for her artwork. I did have a picture somewhere.... Good luck in choosing!
Hello! Of ALL the art that was in my nursery (36 years ago) the one that I remember most, and is hanging in my own daughters room right now, is the one my mom and dad made together (dad sketched and mom painted). Whatever you decide to hang, please add one special one of your own! It will make it that much sweeter, I promise! Plus, I KNOW you are just a little talented, so I have faith that you can come up with something! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Leslie
Thanks for the suggestions and comments. I am planning on making something for the walls in the room myself. Chris took painting lessons his whole childhood so maybe I can find something fun he did to adorn the walls too!
