Melted Crayon Halloween Picture Frame Tutorial

I have a thing for seasonal picture frames. It is kind of an addiction. When Target puts their seasonal picture frames out I am the first in line. I decided to add to my collection this year by making one of my very own.

SUPPLIES

Blank Picture Frame

Black Crafty Chica Paint

Halloween Colored Crayons

Vinyl Letter Stickers

Aleene's Tacky Glue

Hairdryer

Craft Knife

Pardon my lack of step out pictures, I had an anxious toddler as my co-crafter on this project. The first thing I did was spell out the word boo on my blank frame with vinyl letters.

Next I painted the frame black. Tallulah did a base coat with her kid paint and then I followed up with some Crafty Chica Paint. I set my frame in the sun to dry.

Using a craft knife I slit the paper on the Crayons. Tallulah was in charge of unwrapping and breaking. I chose Halloween colors. Yes, in my world teal is a Halloween color.

When my frame was dry I used Aleene's Tacky Glue to attach my broken crayons along the top of the frame.

When my glue was dry I headed outside with my hairdryer to melt the crayons. In a perfect world the wax would have made it down over the words Boo, but alas they did not.

The heat from the hairdryer helped my stickers to peel up at the ages. Tallulah helped me peel up the letters to reveal the words BOO! All that was left to do was add a fun photo of the fam at the pumpkin patch last year and display.

Halloween 2012 Countdown - Instagram Dump

I promise I'll post better pictures of my house, but for right now I thought I would give you a glimpse of how things look around these parts Instagram style. Some of the decorations have been tweaked since I snapped these pictures, but you get the general idea.

Boo above the pantry in the kitchen.

I love my little collection of retro Halloween make up all still in the package. I decided to go with a 60's-80's theme and bust out some goofy witches and scarecrows.

The orange in these plastic jack-o-lanterns really brings out the sparkle in my swordfish's eyes.

When my mother brought me this creepy photo I didn't know what I would do with it. I have since had my sister embellish the photo. The little boy has a cape and fangs and the little girl sports a big black witch's hat.

My kids are getting into the spirit of things too. Here they are painting and glittering pumpkins at a recent birthday party.

After I had my walls painted white this summer I decided to leave a wall blank just for Halloween. I framed and hung several pieces of my vintage Halloween ephemera collection.

This fall at the Round Top flea market I scored 2 vintage Halloween blow mold lamps.

Am I already baking and setting tables for this year's annual Halloween party? You better bet my deep freeze is full of owls, cake balls, witch's fingers and black cat cookies.

Happy smiling pumpkins and candy corn above the fridge.

I kind have a thing for vintage Halloween masks.

This little black cat planter makes me happy. I'm wishing I had bought more of these black and white sticks at Ikea, I'm using them all over the place.

Tallulah has about as many Halloween shirts as I do decorations. Well ok not that many, but a lot.

Haunted houses and wee witch shrines.

Above my bar in the dining room is one of my favorite set ups.

Even my Abe Lincoln planter is getting into the spirit of things.

So there you have it, the way my house looks this very moment via Instagram.

Halloween Pop Corn Cone How-to

I'm gearing up for the annual Halloween party around these parts. It takes me all month to decorate, bake and in the case of today's I Love to Create project make popcorn cones. I could just set out a big bowl of carmel corn, but individual servings in paper cones are so much cuter.

SUPPLIES

Scrap booking Paper

Scissors

Aleene's Tacky Line Runner

Cone template

Pen

Trace your template on the backside of your scrapbooking paper with a pen. Cut out with scissors.

Use your glue runner along one side of your cone. Next, roll your paper into a cone shape.

Next you need to find something to hold your cones. I found this Nesbitt's crate at a flea market and new instantly what I would use it for.

You could always make something like a cake pop holder. I tweaked my design and made these last year. There will be a small hole in the bottoms of your cone. You can stand the cones up on the cake pop sticks.

All that is left to do is fill the cones on party day. Last year I made maple chili popcorn, this year I am going to make spicy caramel veggie bacon popcorn.

Halloween 2012 Countdown - Jack-o-Lanterns!

I love vintage Halloween jack-o-lanterns so much that I gave these little fellows away at last year's Halloween party as the goody bags. Sure, they are reproductions but man are they cute!

Speaking of goody bags I gave away these cuties a few years ago. You can read about how to make your own here.

In case you have forgotten how to carve a pumpkin you can always review by watching me on this video I filmed for HGTV. I actually learned a thing or two while filming it.

These lanterns are not really pumpkins, but they sure look like it. Lucky for me my sister got married the weekend before my Halloween party last year and I got all of her orange paper lanterns.

I have several vintage jack-o-lanterns in my collection. The best part is some belonged to my parents as children.

I also have a soft spot for kitschy plastic Halloween buckets. I'm hoping to add to my collection this year at the thrift stores.

The nice thing about my plastic pumpkin collection is that they can go inside or outside.

Ever wondered how to carve a pumpkin with a template? I can show you.

Last year I whipped up a batch pumpkin pie bites. The ones that inspired me on Bakerella were much cuter. Think I might try making pumpkin pie pops this year.

Have you ever made a pumpkin snowman? You should it is really easy. I also really like the plaid pumpkin wall art in this video

Check out how to make your own Halloween yarn canisters right here.

Pumpkin shaped cake balls. I don't even remember what flavor I made these. I was in a cooking daze by this point. The nice thing about cake balls and pops is that they freeze really well so you can make them a few weeks ahead of the party.

Have you seen those little crepe paper pumpkins all over Pinterest that are filled with candy? You can learn how to make them by watching this video.

I love me some heirloom pumpkins. Every year I buy the motherload of them to decorate with and then later cook with.

Pumpkins are not only good for decorating with and eating they also make spiffy serving vessels. I have put all kinds of dips in mine, this is hummus.

Vintage honeycomb decorations are so fun. I found this perky little scarecrow at the Round Top flea market a few years back.

This video has my favorite project of all the ones we filmed. Plastic fruit given the Halloween once over. I kinda have a thing for crafting with fruit apparently.

Of all the decorations and edible treats at my past Halloween parties no jack-o-lantern was as adorbs as this little cutie.

P.S. Thank you Amanda Marie Photography for some of the pictures (the pretty ones).
