For someone who has never been to a horse show in their lives, I sure do love me some horse show ribbons. Maybe it all stems back to the mums we Texas girls would wear each fall around Home Coming Football time. Giant chunky flowers with ribbon streamers and charms that trailed to our ankles. Somewhere along the way a life long love of prize ribbons was born and has yet to stop for me. Apparently I am not the only one that thinks rosettes are rad. Prize ribbons are popping up everywhere from home decor, digital scrap booking, wearable accessories, art pieces and in the above case of Every Day Beauty a lovely collection. Here are a few of my faves and some of my very own creation.
Taking apart vintage horse show ribbons and re-working them into a totally new and kitschy design is one of current obsessions. With the help of wooden discs, giant cameos, an owl eraser and barrettes these ribbons are no longer for the horse show. Meet Best in Hat Show, Couple of the Year and First Place Feathered Friend Brooch.
If anyone could get me into the world of scrapbooking it is Danielle Thompson and her Kitschy Digitals like the Prize Ribbons and Rosettes Collection.
A couple of recent additions to Naughty Secretary Club include these festive brooches made from horse show ribbons, quilting fabric and vintage wooden themomoter parts. Meet Second Place Siesta and Best Horse in Show Brooch.
The art of Hayley Carmo curls my toes in so many ways it's silly, you can also buy her award ribbons from her Etsy store.
For those that own a copy of my book The Naughty Secretary Club: The Working Girls Guide to Handmade Jewelry you might recognize the Tied Down Brooch. A horse show like ribbon made completely from vintage men's neck ties!
Over at The Daily Danny I found this clever idea for turning the rosettes from prize ribbons into a wreath. I'm not typically a wreath kind of girl, but this one could convert me.
Horses are not the only ones who can win prizes, what about dogs? Think your collie, poodle or scotty is da doggy bomb? Check out our Naughty Secretary Club Best in Show Necklaces.

Several blogs like This is Galmorous, Decor 8 and Design is Mine posted pictures of prize ribbons as home decor awhile back. These were a few of my faves the top two are by Francine Zaslow. I'm sad to report the last photo is unknown, something I clipped from a magazine years ago.
Prize Ribbons can be worn as more than just a brooch, what about as a bracelet or a hair clip?

Thinking you might like to try your hand at making your own prize ribbons? Craft Stylish has a fun tutorial. Also, might I suggest Woody Woodland option.
Holy macrame do I love me some cross eyed Siamese cat purses! Bennie and Olive are my new purse heros. Thanks Random Inspiration for bringing them to my attention.
Any amazing prize ribbons I am forgetting?

The chihuahua bracelet has won me over!
Awesome awesome awesome roundup!
Kind of reminds me of the kind of thing that the booster moms would wear at my high school's football games. Always loved those!
Jen, I just love this post. I have always had an insane love for prize ribbons.
My love for prize ribbons is so strong that I entered stuff in the county fair just to see if I could get my very own ribbon. I may have to turn my third-placer into a fancy accessory!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Kate that is such a cute story! Congrats on the 3rd place ribbon. What did you make? Most of the ribbons I have that I make into jewelry are second place ribbons, so 1st is not always best!
Ali, I have not heard the term "Booster Mom" in forever and a day but you are exactly right.
Erin glad you like!
Jessica I have another bracelet that has a Mastiff on it, but Tallulah thinks it is our Mastiff and calls it Ella and wears it so I can't bear to part with it.
Dear Jennifer,
that is a beautiful collection. Thank you. It´s fun to see how wonderful and romantic those ribbons can look like - when they are presented in the right way - cause sometimes they are kind of kitschy, ;-) By the way I made the tied down brooch out of your book the other day. I like it a lot.
I love the wreath! My husband and I have about 15 ribbons for homebrewing competitions. That would be a cool idea for those!
orale! the chihuahua bracelet sold ;-( i wanted that!!! cuter than shirley temple's dimples!!!
